Adding Documents and URLs

Updated today

You can teach 1up about your company by adding website URLs and documents directly into your Knowledge Base. This gives 1up the context it needs to answer questions accurately.

Adding URLs

Add One or Many Website URLs

Start by adding your main website. 1up will automatically crawl up to 1,000 pages to learn about your products, services, and company basics.

You can submit additional URLs at any time. To add more pages:

• Go to Add Knowledge → URL
• Enter the URL you want to crawl (e.g., your support site or help center)
• Choose Single Page for one URL or Full Crawl to let 1up pull every link it finds on that page or domain

Note: Website URLs are automatically re-crawled over time. You can force a refresh by resubmitting the URL.

Add Gated or Logged-In Pages

If a page requires authentication, enable This page requires authentication and provide a username/password or API key. 1up will securely crawl the content - credentials are hashed, salted, and stored safely.

Tag Your URLs

Tagging is optional but highly recommended.

Tags help categorize your knowledge and allow you to include/exclude sources during answer generation.

Example:

• Add a tag called Website to group all public-facing pages
• Later, you can choose whether to include or exclude website content when generating answers

Add Documents to Your Knowledge Base

Upload Documents Directly

After your URLs are added, you can also upload files. Use Add Knowledge → Document Upload to import PDFs, Word files, spreadsheets, or other materials.

• PDFs
• Word docs
• Excel sheets
• CSVs
• JSON files
• PowerPoints

Documents are fully processed and become part of your searchable Knowledge Base just like URLs. You can also rename how files appear in your 1up KB - this will not affect the original filename.

Don't forget to tag your sources

Tagging documents and URLs allows you to categorize knowledge based on products or topics. When it's time to generate answers, you can instruct 1up which specific sources you want to use. If you don't set tags, 1up will use your whole knowledge base to generate answers.

Use Third-Party Connectors for Auto-Sync

1up supports live-sync integrations with platforms such as:

• Confluence
• Google Drive
• Notion
• OneDrive
• SharePoint
• Egnyte
…and more.

When files come from a connector, they auto-update in your 1up Knowledge Base whenever you edit them at the source - no manual uploads required.

Migrate Data from Other Tools

1up's Migration Assistant allows you to import knowledge from other tools such as:

  • Responsive

  • Loopio

  • Qvidian

  • Glean

  • Guru

  • Pandadoc

This is particularly helpful when important large amounts of Q&A or FAQs.Make sure your import is in CSV or Excel format. Once uploaded, 1up will automatically optimize the imported data for answer generation.

To import from another tool, head to Add Knowledge → Migrate Data.

Override Any File with “Improve Answer”

If 1up generates an answer you want to correct, click Improve Answer.
Your improved response becomes the authoritative version and automatically overrides any conflicting information from uploaded files or web sources.

Improved answers always carry the highest authority.

Keeping Your Knowledge Base Accurate

A few best practices:

Review your Knowledge Base periodically (quarterly or biannually) to retire stale content. 1up will periodically notify you when your Knowledge Base needs a refresh.

• If you’re not using connectors, make sure to upload new versions of documents as they change and overwrite older sources.

• Keep an eye on permissioning to ensure only the right users can upload or manage knowledge.
