Why did 1up say it doesn’t know the answer to a question?

1up is only allowed to use your knowledge base to generate answers. If the answers is unknown, that means:

  • Your Knowledge Base does not contain this information.

  • You narrowed your search to a set of Tags that excluded the information. Adjust your Tags and try again

In such cases, you can click Improve Answer to teach 1up the response for all similar queries in the future. Learn more about improving answers.

Why does the Ask 1up function only support questions under 500 characters?

Ask 1up is optimized for fast answers to short, focused questions. Longer prompts often combine multiple topics and take more time to process. For complex queries greater than 500 characters, upload them to the Automate Questionnaires tab.

Why did 1up get the answer wrong?

The information may be missing, outdated, or needs correction. Click Related Sources to see what 1up used. Review your source material or teach 1up the right answer using Improve Answer. Learn more about improving answers.

My Questionnaire extracted in the wrong format. What do I do?

If extraction fails or the format is incorrect, open a Support ticket via Live Chat. Our team can review the issue and recommend next steps.

Why am I required to upload a minimum number of files before 1up works?

1up only uses your knowledge base to generate answers. It doesn't know anything about the world besides what you teach it. Uploading at least 5 items provides a solid foundation for accurate responses. We recommend more, but this should give you a good enough baseline to test the tool.

How long does it take to set up my knowledge base?

Short documents process in seconds. Larger files > 100 pages can take a few minutes. We recommend waiting until all uploads show Ready before generating answers.

How does 1up keep my data safe?

1up never trains models on customer data. All data stays within your workspace. Check out our Data Security & Privacy basics, or visit our Answer Hub to ask anything about 1up Security Policies.

How can I generate answers for specific products?

Use Tags to segment your knowledge (e.g., by product line). Once tagged, answers can be generated based on specific knowledge sources. Here's a guide on tags.

What document formats does 1up support?

1up supports Word, Excel, Google Sheets, PDFs, and web-based questionnaires. Formatting is handled automatically during upload and export. Learn more about questionnaire formats and exports.

Can I use web documentation as a knowledge source?

Yes. Product docs, technical resources, and API reference pages are excellent sources. You can Tag URLs in your Knowledge Base like any other document.

How does 1up prevent hallucinations?

1up only provides answers grounded in your verified knowledge sources. It cannot answer questions outside your data. It's not allowed to guess, lie, or embellish answers. 1up is also biased towards human-approved responses. These guardrails ensure your data is always influenced by human review.

Why doesn’t 1up provide confidence scores?

Large language models (LLMs) struggle with confidence scoring. This is because LLMs are primarily trained to predict the next word in a sequence based on patterns in the data, not to directly estimate uncertainty or confidence.

1up uses a binary system to determine if a query can or cannot be answered. You might see other products that provide confidence scoring. In our view, these scores are misleading at best. Additionally, an AI model should never be used to grade its own performance. We believe it’s always best to let the reader decide on the quality of a 1up-generated response.

How many URLs can I add?

You can add up to 1,000 URLs from a single domain. Higher URL limits are available in our Enterprise Plan.

How does the KB file limit work?

The limit applies to how many files your KB can contain at once (e.g., 50 files on the Starter plan). You can delete and re-upload freely as long as the total stays within the limit.

Why didn’t 1up export responses into my questionnaire’s answer column?

1up attempts to detect the correct cell for each answer and will automatically insert responses next to the corresponding question. If the file is locked for editing, 1up adds answers to the next available column so you can copy/paste them in.

If 1up cannot confidently determine where an answer belongs, you’ll receive a notification letting you know. These answers will still be be exported to the rightmost column so you can reposition them manually.

Where can I find all the Q&A entries that were manually added or edited?

All edited or custom entries live in your Answer Library. Here's how it works.

Are answers from Slack and Ask 1up saved to the Knowledge Base automatically?

No. They’re only logged to your Q&A History. If you want to improve a response for future user, click the answer → Save to Knowledge Base.
